Iron Baby!

This is just brilliant! I hope Patrick Boivin does a 'making of' video.

Wax On, Wax Off...

"Wax on, right hand. Wax off, left hand. Wax on, wax off. Breathe in through nose, out the mouth. Wax on, wax off. Don't forget to breathe, very important." - Miyagi

I've been practicing my character animation this weekend. Here's a short test video that I made using a random audio clip from an older sketch. If I do this about a 1,000 more times I might one day be good at it!

I done written the words and stuff.

The biggest piece of news this week is that the scripts have been finished and emailed off to be recorded! Woohoo!!

Finishing the script is always a difficult part for me. I spend hours obsessing over tiny details, adding commas only to remove them 10 minutes later. Flip-flopping over whether it's funnier if the character eats a Scotch Egg or a Pork Pie. It's torture! So I'm glad it's now out of my hands!

I've been very lucky on the graphics side of the project this week. Just hours after deciding that I needed a specific lighting effect, somebody posted a great tutorial on how to achieve it. I love the internet! I've now decided that I need a Blonde, Swedish girlfriend with Big Boobs...

I shall wrap this post up with the new trailer for Sintel. Sintel is a low budget short film made entirely with Blender and other Open Source software. You can read their development blog if you want to find out more. The coolest thing is that the film is also Open Source. Once it's finished they are giving away all the 3D models, soundtrack, voices etc. So that everyone can learn from it, and if you want you can even make the sequel!

Stadium of Light

Here's the stadium model almost finished. It doesn't need to be Hi-Res but I still have to add goalposts and corner flags, *sigh*... so much to do. This has been the least fun part so far but thankfully it's nearly finished.

I'm slightly concerened about how long this is going to take to render. 4 minutes of animation * 60 seconds * 25 frames per second makes 6,000 frames of animation! Allowing a minute to render each frame (which is looking optimistic) that's at least 100 hours of rendering to do at some stage!

I've recently bought another computer which is a cheap refurbished Quad core. The plan is to leave that PC on rendering while I'm at work and asleep so fingers crossed that's enough.

Oh, and here's some random test pics of Brian I just found!

Busy Weekend.

I've almost finished modelling all of Brian's different facial expressions now. That didn't take as long as I thought it would so I ended up rigging the character too. This means I can now start posing him for some test shots.

Here's Brian, sat alone watching his beloved Rovers lose... again! I still haven't worked out Blender's depth of field so the crappy DOF was done in Photoshop.

I've also extended the Brian Park story so the animation will now be in two parts. It's going to be like Kill Bill but with half-time Pork Pies.
